Mt Whaleback Mine – Abrasiguard Slurry Pipe for Tailings Dam Project

BHP’s Mt Whaleback mine is the largest and oldest open cut iron ore mine in the world. It has a production capacity of 43 million tonnes per year.

In 2017, we worked with BHP’s project team to supply the pipework and pipeline assemblies for the mine’s tailings dam wall raise project.

Our Brisbane workshop manufactured 760m of DN300 Abrasiguard slurry piping. A further 2km of slotted polyethylene pipe and Slurryflex mining hose were also custom manufactured for the project. As part of the complete package we supplied spigot assemblies, air valves and support frames, connections and fittings.

We delivered the pipeline to site ready for installation so BHP could successfully commission the pipeline on time and budget.
