Metropolitan Coal Mine – 6km of Piping for Underground Paste Backfill

In 2015, Ausenco engaged us to supply piping for the Metropolitan Mine’s underground backfill emplacement project. The project would allow Peabody to reuse coal rejects as backfill at the mine, located in the Illawarra.

The design required a piping solution that could handle high pressures from 6900kPa to 20,000kPa. The team in our Brisbane factory custom manufactured and supplied 6km of piping and fittings. Ausenco’s successful completion of this project has meant all rejects are being used as backfill. This has eliminated offsite movement and storage for Peabody.
