Marandoo Iron Ore Mine – New Tailings Pipeline for Waste Fines Facilities
Rio Tinto’s Marandoo iron ore operation is located 45km east of Tom Price in WA’s Pilbara region and produces 15 million tonnes per year. In 2018, Rio Tinto contracted Primero to construct a pipeline for its waste fines storage facilities.
Primero engaged us to supply the tailings pipeline, made from custom-designed Slurryflex SA Hard Wall mining hose. Manufactured in our Brisbane facility, the hose is designed to reliably transport abrasive slurries. We added a wear monitoring system to the hose so the maintenance team at Rio Tinto could plan ahead for maintenance and not be surprised by unscheduled failures.
