LKAB Kiruna – 6x Wear Life on Slurry Pump Pipework

Are you frustrated fixing the same spools over and over?

For the maintenance engineer at the LKAB Kiruna iron ore mine, it was a costly and infuriating exercise.

In 2022, the rigid spools in their slurry pump set-up were wearing out within weeks. They were also in a difficult to reach spot in the plant.

Not ideal if you’re having to replace them regularly.

That’s why we recommended they introduce flexibility in their slurry pump piping with Slurryflex mining hose.

Slurryflex mining hose can better absorb and dissipate vibration from the pump. This gives the pump a longer wear life. Plus, there’s more tolerance to compress, bend or twist the hose. That can correct misalignment between fixed points.

The maintenance engineer decided to use Slurryflex CLX ceramic-lined mining hose (see photos) to increase the wear life. The ceramic tile lining is the best option around slurry pumps for abrasive, turbulent slurry.

Six months on, the hoses are still going strong.
