Copper Mining – Abrasiguard Piping for 4km Tailings Pipeline
In 2022, the project team at a copper mine in Turkey contacted us for help with massive failures in the lining of their slurry pipeline.
Their 4km tailings pipeline was critical to the operation, and they were worried it was about to fail, stopping all production.
We analysed a sample of the existing pipeline and discovered two key issues:
- Poor adhesion between the liner and the pipe wall had caused delamination and tearing.
- The piping wear liner wasn’t suitable for the highly corrosive application. So, the liner was wearing out quicker than anticipated.
Delamination is a problem it exposes the bare steel substrate to corrosive slurry.
And when broken wear liner material goes through pumps, it causes damage to expensive instrumentation.
To avoid these problems, their project team chose Abrasiguard polyurethane lined piping. It’s the best option for severe service pipelines.
Our Brisbane team manufactured 4,000m of Abrasiguard piping in 13 weeks.
Each spool underwent our stringent testing and QA protocols, so they’re confident they’ve put an end to piping failures.
